EMPLOYMENT RETENTION PROGRAM (ERP)

Dear Members,  

Kindly be informed of the Employment Retention Program (ERP), as implemented by the Government through PERKESO / SOSCO for companies that asked their staff to take unpaid leave during this period of time of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The ERP is an assistance of RM 600 per month for 6 months, starting from 1 March 2020. The main conditions are as follows:

  • The staff must be on unpaid leave from 1 March 2020.  
  • The staff concerned should be earning RM4000 or less per month.
  • The staff must be contributing to the EIS – Employment Insurance Scheme
  • The employer / company must apply for the staff
  • The assistance to be paid to the company who then to pay to the staff concerned.

Covid-19 Notice

The Malaysian government has imposed Movement Control Order from March 18th to April 14th 2020 nationwide to curb the spread of the Covid-19 infection in Malaysia.

Dear Visa Applicants,

In a drastic move to stem a surge in coronavirus infections, Malaysia government has declared that the entire country will be on a movement control order starting from March 18th to April 14th 2020. The Movement Control Order is imposed under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 and well as the Police Act 1967, which cover a range of activities as below:

1. All places of worship and business premises must be closed except for supermarkets, public markets, grocery stores, and stores selling basic necessities. In addition, all religious activities in mosques and surau will be suspended in line with the Special Muzakarah Council’s decision on Sunday.

2. Malaysians will be barred from leaving the country and restrictions placed on the entry of all tourists and foreign visitors into Malaysia. Malaysians who have returned from overseas have to go for a health check- up and undergo self-quarantine for 14 days.

3. All foreign tourists will be banned from entering the country during this time.

4. All nurseries, government and private schools, including boarding schools, international schools, tahfiz centres as well as primary, secondary and pre-university education institutions will be shuttered.

5. All public and private universities as well as vocational training center will be closed.

6. Government and private premises would be closed except those providing essential services. These include water, electricity, energy, telecommunications, post, transportation, water services, oil, gas, fuel, broadcasting, financial, banking, health, pharmacy, the Fire and Rescue Department, prisons, ports, airports, security, defense, cleaning, retail and food supplies.

Hence, we will be closed until April 14th 2020.

TOURISM AUSTRALIA UPDATES ON COVID-19

Dear Members,
Kindly be informed that MATTA received email from Tourism Australia with regards to the Australian Government had recently  introduced of new border control measures and travel restrictions aimed at controlling the spread of the coronavirus.   

At this time these measures are focused on outbound travel from China. Specifically, foreign nationals (excluding permanent Australian residents) who are in mainland China, are not allowed to enter Australia for 14 days from the time they have left or transited through mainland China.  

Australian citizens, permanent residents and their immediate family are still be able to enter Australia, but are required to self-isolate for 14 days from the departure from China.  

The above measures are current, but this is an evolving public health issue. Advice and restrictions could change. We encourage all travellers visiting or planning to visit Australia to seek the most up-to-date travel and health information prior to departure, and remain informed about changing conditions while in Australia.  

Tourism Australia maintains a travel alert section on Australiavisa.my which contains updated information on the latest travel advisories impacting Australia, and this currently includes COVID-19.     They would like to share the following information with you about the coronavirus:  

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the coronavirus outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
     
  • The Australian Government has issued a travel health alert as a precaution, based on the latest and best medical advice.
     
  • Australia’s travel advice to China is at ‘Level 4 – Do Not Travel’.
     
  • Australia has in place temporary border restrictions for travellers arriving from China (as of 21 February 2020). These measures are being reviewed on a weekly basis. 
     
  • In Australia, there have been a small number of confirmed cases of coronavirus.
     
  • The Australian Government is monitoring the outbreak closely.
     
  • All Australian airports are open and, with the exception of flights to and from China, all international air services into Australia are operating as normal.
     
  • Australia has well-established measures and safeguards in place to deal with the threat of viruses including at our airports.
